Our founder Sue Gowling visited Cambridge Online this week to donate 10 SSDs to help them refurbish laptops for those in need of digital access in Cambridge. We are delighted to be working with Cambridge Online, helping them provide data-secure, sustainable refurbished devices, to people in need.

Thursday 12th September was End Digital Poverty Day, an event initiated and hosted by the Digital Poverty Alliance (DPA) who convene, compel and inspire collaboration for the UK & global community to lead sustainable action against digital poverty. The event raises awareness, builds community engagement, and garners the necessary support to tackle Digital Poverty.

Your purchase helps us facilitate our Tech 4 Inclusion offering, whereby we donate refurbished legacy tech to people in need through our network of charity partners, spreading digital inclusion.

Despite Oxfam’s campaign being centred on the consequences of fast fashion, all fast fashion’s detrimental effects also apply to the manufacture, distribution and disposal of tech devices. Both have become some of the most polluting industries on the planet, with mass-pollution from the production and transportation of tech, a throwaway culture that leaves millions of devices in landfill every year, and precious resources like water being used up.

We have supplied 2754 devices to-date for children and their families. We can take for granted, and assume that children in the UK have devices and access to them, but 1 in 5 children in the UK are being digitally excluded. Around a million children and young people don't have proper access to devices or the internet at home, according to research carried out by Lloyds Bank.

KidsOut does amazing work supporting some of the UK’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children with positive and happy experiences. The provision of digital devices enhances this vital work in a very practical way, helping families back towards independence and normality at a time when they have often been left with nothing.
